The 'Academic Rankings of World Universities' (ARWU) Top 100 list has rated the School of Chemistry at the University of Southampton as one of the top 75 chemistry departments in the world.

This ranking uses six objective indicators to review world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals; the number of highly cited researchers selected by Thomson Scientific; the number of articles published in the journals Nature and Science; the number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index and per capita performance with respect to the size of an institution.

The ARWU assesses more than 1000 universities worldwide every year, with the top 500 being published online.

The School of Chemistry's position in this ranking exemplifies our commitment to internationally-leading research and expertise, which is fed directly into our teaching. With world-renowned academics lecturing and supervising our students, the University of Southampton is an exciting and dynamic place to study chemistry at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
