PhD Studentship: “Engineering bacteria for the production of anticancer compounds”

Published: 5 January 2011

We are seeking an academically excellent, bright, motivated individual to join the Tavassoli lab as a PhD student. The project involves the engineering of bacteria for the production of an anticancer compound. These bacterial production units will provide an alternative, more economical supply of important anticancer com-pounds.

The position (available to UK nationals only) is part of a larger, EPSRC funded synthetic biology network involving several Universities around the UK. Its multi-disciplinary nature will provide an excellent training environment for learning a variety of new skills.

Ideally, the candidate will have some prior experience of molecular biology, however this is not essential and training will be provided as needed.

For informal enquiries related to this project contact Dr. Ali Tavassoli by email ali1@soton.ac.uk. You can find more information about the Tavassoli lab online at www.personal.soton.ac.uk/ali1

For application details contact Mrs Chun Borodzicz, Postgraduate Admissions Administrator, at chempgr@soton.ac.uk
