Hundreds of Chemistry graduates celebrated with their family and friends in the sunshine to mark the end of their studies at the University of Southampton.

Summer Graduation 2013

After receiving their certificates at a ceremony at the Turner Sims Concert Hall, they enjoyed a summer buffet in a marquee on campus.

At the reception, Head of Chemistry Professor Phil Gale and Andrea Russell, Professor of Physical Electrochemistry, paid tribute to the graduates' hard work and bade farewell to retiring members of staff Professor Bill Levason and Dr Martin Grossel and presented graduates with achievement and progression awards.

BSc Chemistry graduate Ahria Roushanbakhti won three prizes. He says: "I enjoyed every minute of my time at Southampton, the department is fantastic and I was inspired by my lecturers. Laboratory work is great fun but also challenging as you are often completing experiments against the clock."

MChem graduate Fiona Thomas add: "I loved the atmosphere when I came to the University of Southampton on an open day. I've made lifelong friends and have grown in independence and self-belief. Although I enjoyed studying science, I'm going to use my analytical skills in a job with the accountancy firm KPMG."
