Second year Chemistry student Allison Bushrod is one of a select few in the country to be awarded an Undergraduate Research Bursary from the Royal Society of Chemistry for a ten week summer project in the University of Southampton laboratories.

She will be working with Dr Robert Raja on the chemistry behind the capture, storage and utilisation of carbon dioxide.

"We are delighted to win this prestigious award for the second year in a row," explains Robert. "Allison is interested in catalysis and this focused work in the laboratory will give her an opportunity to discover the potential of designing porous solids for sustainable chemistry applications."

In 2013, Stephanie Chapman was awarded a similar bursary and spent her summer examining ways of improving the efficiency of nylon manufacturing.

Allison's project will begin in mid-July.
