A significant academic article published by Dr Ramon Rios Torres is one of the most influential reviews in its field to be published over the last two decades.

Enantioselective Organocatalytic Synthesis of Fluorinated Molecules* published in Chemistry – A European Journal in 2011, has been named as one of its top 20 most cited reviews in the journal over the past 20 years. These articles have been compiled as part of the journal’s 20th anniversary celebration and will be made freely available to all readers during the course of the anniversary year.

The article outlines how to control the positioning of fluorine or fluorine building blocks within molecules (in an enantioselective fashion) in order to improve important properties such as absorption and make them more effective.

“It is a comprehensive guide to the methodologies of using fluorine and I am pleased it has been so popular among chemists working in this area,” says Ramon, who has joined Southampton from the University of Barcelona.

His research group at Southampton includes a visiting Professor, three postgraduate researchers and a masters student.
