University of Southampton Open Days – Meeting our prospective Chemistry students!
The July Open Days took place this weekend with students from across the country turning out to discover more about studying Chemistry at Southampton. Young people from all over the UK travelled to the University, eager to find out more about life at Southampton.
Facilitated by course leaders and students, visitors attended Chemistry talks which gave budding scientists the opportunity to ask any questions they may have had about studying at Chemistry at Southampton and to learn more about what it’s really like to be a student at a Russell Group University.
There were displays throughout the Chemistry building showcasing the flexible programmes available to students; the unique opportunities available to bolster employability and the high impact research carried out by Chemistry academic staff. Visitors also enjoyed lab tours and insights into project work the students enjoy which gave them a taster of undergraduate practical work. Lecturers, admissions staff and student ambassadors were on hand throughout the day to talk to prospective students about their options and to provide them with help and guidance on one of the most important decisions they will ever have to make.
Professor Richard Brown, Deputy Head of Chemistry commented on the energy of the day, ‘It’s great to see so many engaging and interested prospective students and to see their interest in work placement opportunities.’ For more information on Chemistry lecturers, explore #MeetYourLecturers on Facebook or Twitter .
Around the University there was a wealth of information available to visitors and their supporters. There were accommodation tours, finance talks, student life sessions and studying abroad talks. In addition, visitors enjoyed University cupcakes, taking photos in front of the giant ‘UoS’ lettering and discovering the variety of student societies on offer at Union Southampton . The excitement spilled over onto social media with visitors sharing their experiences and entering the Instagram competition using the #UoSOpenDay hashtag and @UniSouthampton Twitter tag.
