Chemistry postdoctoral researcher, Dr Marta Meazza, who gained her PhD at Southampton, has been honoured at an event to celebrate the achievements of young researchers held by the Association of Turkish Academics (ABTA). Marta received an Honourable Mention award in the Natural and Life Sciences category.

Marta’s PhD was in Organocatalysis, in particular the development of new methodologies, suitable for the synthesis of possible new drugs using an innovative approach based on the coexistence of transition metal and secondary amine catalysts. She is now at Aarhus University in Denmark, working with one of the most important chemists in the area of Organocatalysis: Karl Anker Jørgensen.

“I chose to study at the University of Southampton because it gave me the possibility to work at the highest level in research, especially in the area of synergistic catalysis where Dr Ramon Rios Torres’ group is one of the pioneers,” says Marta “Moreover, its research facilities such as HPLC, NMR, X-ray, Mass Spectrometry etc make easy to work in high level projects.”
