International study opportunity for Southampton Research Chemist
Southampton Chemistry research fellow Matthew Potter has been successful in gaining a place on the Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) in Singapore in January 2017.
The five day event brings together more than 250 early career researchers and PhD students with 21 distinguished scientists, including Nobel prize winners.
Academic staff in Chemistry at Southampton nominated Matthew to take part in the summit as one of the University of Southampton’s five representatives.
His supervisor Professor Robert Raja says: “I am pleased that Matthew has been selected to represent the University at GYSS 2017. His passion for using chemistry to solve challenging issues within the renewable energy landscape has initiated multidisciplinary collaborations in Engineering and Optoelectronics.
“He has also demonstrated a strong desire to apply his work in the industrial context for developing sustainable catalytic processes, and his interactions with A*STAR Singapore on a project relating to CCS and CCU complements sign-posted themes within the Clean Carbon USRG. This recognition gives him a wonderful opportunity to showcase his talents as a future star for UK Science and strengthen collaborations with A*STAR Singapore.”

Dr Matthew E. Potter MChem, PhD
Matthew joined was promoted to Senior Research Fellow in January 2020, after joining the Raja Group in the Chemistry department at the University of Southampton in June 2016 as a post-doctoral researcher, working on an inter-disciplinary project with Engineering and the Optoelectronics Research Centre on utilising photonic fibres in catalysis.
