The new research will combine robots and computational chemistry.

An international research team led by the University of Southampton will combine robotics with computational chemistry in a new European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grant.

ADAM (Autonomous Discovery of Advanced Materials) will build an intelligent platform to discover new materials through €10 million of funding over the next six years.

Researchers will combine computational modelling, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning in a Computational Engine that guides robots exploring the huge number of possibilities to combine molecules.

The project, which is led by the School of Chemistry’s Professor Graeme Day , will channel the expertise of scientists at Southampton, the University of Liverpool and the University of Rostock in Germany.
