The new research will combine robots and computational chemistry.

An international research team led by the University of Southampton will combine robotics with computational chemistry in a new European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grant.

ADAM (Autonomous Discovery of Advanced Materials) will build an intelligent platform to discover new materials through €10 million of funding over the next six years.

Researchers will combine computational modelling, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning in a Computational Engine that guides robots exploring the huge number of possibilities to combine molecules.

The project, which is led by the School of Chemistry’s Professor Graeme Day, will channel the expertise of scientists at Southampton, the University of Liverpool and the University of Rostock in Germany.
