Event details

Prof Jeremy Frey presents the 2020 RSC Mid-Southern Counties Local section’s annual family lecture.

Jeremy’s talk will highlight how spectroscopy and computers have propelled much of modern chemistry, and will include some memorable visual demonstrations. Together they have enabled the discovery of molecular structure and the understanding of molecular properties. He will show how the use of artificial intelligence is increasing our capabilities in molecular design for the modern world.

Speaker information

Prof. Jeremy Frey,The applications of linear and non-linear spectroscopy and imaging to the study of interfacial and nano-scale chemistry. Looking at the molecular organisation and chemistry of the air/water and oil/water interfaces, with applications to environmental (atmospheric) chemistry, biological and industrial processes. The application of modern computer (web) science to the chemistry research process for experimental laboratory research and computational studies – “from the Laboratory to literature and back” as an illustration of the wider impact of the World Wide Web and Digital Economy on science and the citizen.
