Synthesis and Photocatalytic Performance of Visible-light-responsive N-doped TiO₂ and BiOX Photocatalysts

Design and synthesis of visible-light-responsive photocatalytic semiconductors of desired bandgap, porosity and reactivity represent great challenges in photocatalytic harvesting solar energy. With a brief overview of industrial applications and critical issues in photocatalysis, our efforts on syntheses of N-doped TiO₂ and recently emerged BiOX (X=Cl, Br, I) photocatalysts will be introduced. The importance of coordination chemistry, meso-porosity and morphology as well as tuning of band structure will be addressed. Our latest attempts to reduce recombination of photogenerated charge carriers via surface hybridisation and phase-junction of these materials will also be presented.
