Hi, I'm Gabriele Stevanato and I studied PhD within Chemistry at the University of Southampton.

Although life as a PhD student proves to be tough it is absolutely one of the best experience in my life: challenging, interesting, enjoyable and rewarding.

Since I was a child I’ve been curious, always asking myself how and why things work as they do.After completing my master degree in Physics I worked  self-employed on the hospitality industry, so nothing to do with chemistry. But there was always something telling me to go further. I thought that it would have been nice and rewarding studying again, and chemistry id so fascinating. I applied to the University of Southampton and find myself here. Although life as a PhD student proves to be tough it is absolutely one of the best experience in my life: challenging, interesting, enjoyable and rewarding. My plan of study is a very fundamental one. You literally look into the structure of matter, and I think one should look into it in a creative way because it invariably surprises me.

As long as you proceed with your studies opportunities to visit other labs, to develop your network and to increase your confidence build up.

Southampton is a nice small city, the life overall is not so frantic as London or other big metropolies. Isle of Wight and the new forest are incredibly beautifull. If you come here alone it won’t take long to make new friends…

I would just suggest to choose a plan of study that you find interesting and stimulating, all the rest will come in due course.
