Six month industrial placement at Novartis, Basel, Switzerland
I couldn’t have asked for a better time on my six month industrial placement.
Novartis was a really brilliant place to work. Although the work was directed by our project supervisors, we were given full laboratory independence, which allowed me to expand and develop my ideas in whichever way I wanted and I felt like I had real input into the projects within the company. Freedom in the lab was an aspect I particularly enjoyed and the equipment within the company was excellent.
As Novartis is such a large organisation the amount of placement students they take each year is huge, taking on people from all over the world. The social network between interns is also set up really well, with weekly social events organised and mailed to everyone, which makes it really easy to meet people and arrange weekend trips as everyone wants to get the most out of their time. Our social life definitely didn’t suffer from being on placement that’s for sure!
All in all I had an absolutely amazing time on placement, with a good mixture of work and play. I just wish it had been longer!
