Caroline Stevens taught over a period of 25 years in a variety of primary schools. Her teaching experience included the senior management roles of Deputy Head teacher and Acting Head teacher. She has worked with all year groups throughout the primary school, however, her experience is predominantly working with Early Years. Caroline has first-hand experience of the process of school reorganisation, being directly involved in creating a primary school from an existing infant and junior school. She has a particular interest in learning through play and the outdoor environment as a classroom.

In 2007 Caroline became a Senior Teaching Fellow teaching on the Bachelor of Arts with Qualified Teaching Status (B.A.QTS) Initial Teacher Training course, in the School of Education at the University of Southampton. She was also part of the PGCE (Primary team). Caroline was Partnership/Placement Tutor. This related to her research interest in the role of the mentor within schools. She gained a Master’s degree in Institutional Leadership and Management (IML) from the University of Southampton.

Caroline joined Institute for Learning, Innovation and Development (ILIaD) in November 2015. As Education Development Adviser she supported the delivery of the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) course.

Currently Caroline works with the Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP) as a Senior Teaching Fellow and is Module 1 Lead for the PGCAP.

Caroline currently teaches on the Introduction to Learning and Teaching for Researchers (ILTeR) programme as well as the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP). She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Caroline strongly believes in active learning and endeavours to involve learners in practical activities to support their learning. Having spent 33 years in teaching Caroline is keen to share her experiences with new lecturers and those who are new to teaching. She is also interested in using technology to enhance both teaching and learning. She was also involved in the following external activities: EYPS Assessor for the University of Winchester and Southampton, English Lead on the Primary Catholic Partnership School Centred, Initial Teacher Training course (SCITT) in Southampton.
As part of the CHEP team, Caroline teaches on the Introduction to Learning and Teaching for early Researchers (ILTeR) and the Post Graduate Certificate of Academic Practice (PGCAP) staff development courses.
