Academic Peer Support

Target audience: All Academic Staff (i.e. teaching and research) / Research Staff / Education Staff / Professional Services staff in student-facing roles

Course Description: Buddying, Peer Mentoring and Peer Support schemes are effective ways of supporting students with transition to Higher Education. This active workshop will focus on training experienced students to provide academic support for new students. It will explore practical ways to design and develop support and maximise the benefits for all students. This session is aimed at any staff who coordinate peer support schemes or are interested in using peer support on modules or programmes.

By the end of this session, you will:

·         Have a critical awareness of the principles of peer learning

·         Understand the boundaries between peer learning and teaching

·         Plan and support peer learning appropriate to your discipline
