Assessment

Target Audience: For academic staff who want to know more about different assessment methods.

Brief Outline: In Higher Education we are increasingly being asked to assess our students and their work for different purposes: for the development of core skills, knowledge and understanding; to give feedback in formative assessment; and to mark and grade in summative assessment. Traditional forms of assessment, such as the unseen written exam, cannot do all of this for lecturers or students and therefore there is a need to consider a wider range of assessment methods. This session will evaluate approaches that have been used in different institutions across a number of subject areas, with specific reference to the appropriateness of the methods in assessing the stated learning outcomes. Participants will also have an opportunity to share and analyse their own experiences.
