Supervising Masters Projects & Dissertations

Target Audience: All Academic Staff who get involved in supporting and supervising students who are doing their Masters projects and dissertations as part of their taught Masters Programme.

Brief Outline: This half day workshop opens with a brief discussion of the current UK Masters and considers how the level/standard expected differs from both the Undergraduate and the Doctoral level qualifications. Participants will then be invited to consider the roles and responsibilities of a Masters supervisor at different stages in the programme and identify key milestones in a successful project. There will also be opportunity to discuss responses to a range of difficult supervisory situations and ways of avoiding some problems. Finally – as many Masters supervisors also then become Masters assessors – the workshop will suggest tactics for balancing these two demands.
