Event details

In the UK, university academics are increasingly expected to gain professional recognition for their activity either through the AdvanceHE Fellowship scheme and/or other professional bodies. This workshop originates from a research project conducted collaboratively by the University of Southampton and the University of Surrey. The study explores a written corpus of ca. 72.000 words and focuses on a linguistic analysis of reflective texts extracted from submissions for AdvanceHE fellowship. Findings reveal that writing for fellowship required more than just a reflection on experience. It requires knowledge of the writing process and it is precisely the mechanics of writing that you will have an opportunity to develop during this workshop. During the workshop you will have an opportunity to analyse texts for their lexico-grammatical features and use this analysis to construct a reflective text. The event will be useful for all those academics who have to write professional (but not necessarily academic) texts such as submissions for professional recognition to professional bodies. Led by Dr Marion Heron, Senior Lecturer in Higher Education & Dr Erika Corradini, Senior Teaching Fellow in Higher Education.
