Event details

There’s never been a more important time for researchers to connect with the public and with policy makers and thankfully these days there are vast numbers of publications, both online and in print, that enable this. But how do researchers write for non-academic audiences and how do they get their stories published? This interactive Workshop provides researchers with the skills they need to bring their research to life to help raise their own and their institution’s profile, to influence opinion, improve knowledge and communicate the impact of their research. Researchers will learn how to find the ‘story’ in their research and write engaging articles that are clear and accurate. They will also learn how to adapt their writing to different publications and audiences as well as gaining ‘insider knowledge’ on getting their words published.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

This six-hour workshop enables participants to:

• find the ‘story’ in their research and the research of others,

• write engaging articles that still communicate science accurately,

• adapt their writing to different audiences,

• understand the opportunities for getting articles published, and

• approach editors with confidence when pitching ideas for articles.

Session run by:
