Event details

This one day event aims to celebrate learning and teaching at the University of Southampton, and is open to all staff.

About the Festival

The inaugural CHEP Festival of Learning and Teaching is running on Wednesday 18th September.  The programme features contributions from guest speakers, an interactive panel session and sessions of ‘lightning talks’ from colleagues.  We will also devote part of the programme to a celebration of successes in the area of learning and teaching, highlighting the excellent work being done here in Southampton.  Full details of the programme will be shared in due course, but we can confirm that the event will start at 9:45 (registration and refreshments from 9:15) and will finish at 3:30 (followed by a wine reception).  Lunch will be provided.

Register your attendance

We are excited to invite colleagues to contribute a ‘lightning talk’ during the afternoon.  We plan to have at least two 30 min sessions in which 3 colleagues will each give a 5 min talk aligned to one of 4 themes (see below).  There will then be 15 mins for open discussion between the audience and presenters.  The aim of these talks will be for individuals to share good practice and ideas in a concise manner, and to facilitate a broader discussion of the issues addressed by the themes.  It is hoped that some presenters will be willing to expand on their lightning talk by delivering lunchtime talks later in the academic year within CHEP.

Proposed talks should align with one of the following themes:

Transitions

Assessment and Feedback

Curriculum Complexity

Academic Student Support

For more information about how to apply for the Lightning Talks and to view the Festival Programme, click here.  Please note that this link to the Festival Sharepoint site can only be accessed by University of Southampton staff, using their username and password.

Note that if there is a high level of interest we have the scope to run parallel sessions to cover the different themes.  If it isn’t possible to accommodate all interested speakers, we will invite some poster presentations as well.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Festival in September.  Please spread the word and encourage colleagues to attend.  One of our aims for the inaugural event is to provoke discussion about how we can expand the Festival in future years, providing more opportunities for colleagues to share best practice in support of the enhancement of learning across the University.
