On 15th of July, the Confucius Institute, University of Southampton successfully delivered an end-of-term China day at the Mansbridge Primary School.

At the whole-school assembly, about 150 pupils from Year 1-5 enjoyed the beautiful Xinjiang dance that performed by the professional dancer from London Goldsmith CI. Children also were amazed by the ‘Chinese Yo-yo’ Kongzhu performance performed by Chen Min, one of our talented volunteer teachers who is current teaching at Somerset. A group of 12 pupils from the Chinese fan dance club flawlessly performed a traditional Chinese fan dance: Moonlight over the lotus pond. Following the assembly, A team of 10 teachers from Southampton CI ran 7 diverse Chinese culture workshops, including: lantern making, mask painting, Chinese game- Jianzi, fan painting, chopsticks game, Kungfu and folk dance. This event was highly praised by the headmaster Mr. Mark Sheehan. The Mansbridge primary school has taught Mandarin for 4 years and officially launched as a Confucius Classroom under Southampton CI in 2015.
