Good Memories in Southampton – from the 15th Annual Conference of the British Chinese Language Teaching Society (BCLTS) held at the University of Southampton

The BCLTS conference held at the University of Southampton on 28th, 29th and 30th June 2017 was a great success. During the three days, five keynote speakers – Lu Jianming and Ma Zhen, professors from Beijing University; Bel Lassen, sinologist from the European Associate of Chinese Teachers; Chu Chengzhi, professor from the University of California and Philippa Vallely, teacher-training co-ordinator from the IOE Confucius Institute for Schools, presented expertise presentations in their research areas.

Nearly 100 presentations were made in 32 parallel groups with discussions on the international Chinese teaching from the global language policy to classroom teaching practice and theories. Around 160 teachers attended the conference who came from the US, France, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Malta, Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan in addition to the full members of the BCLTS in the UK. Every participants has benefited from the conference greatly.

This success is owing to the huge support from the Modern Languages and Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities and the Confucius Institute at the Southampton University. Mr. Wang Yongli, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, attended the opening ceremony.
