On 7th June 2017, the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton ran a calligraphy club at Mansbridge Primary School Confucius Classroom.  The original plan of the club was to run once a year but because of the popularity and a long waiting list of the applicants, the club was run for a second time in the same academic year. Ma Cuihua from the Confucius Institute tutored the students.

By joining the club, students deepened their understanding of Chinese culture and learned more about the Chinese language written patterns, which promoted the students’ interest in their further learning. Miss Gemma Lowenstein, assistant head teacher, said that the school would like to have more Chinese cultural clubs run jointly with them in the future.
