‘Spring’ out of the Chinese Paper Cutting and ‘Names’ Handwritten in Chinese Calligraphy – the University of Southampton WOW International Cultural Festival

On 6th May 2017, the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton was invited to attend "Welcome to Our World" (WOW) International Cultural Festival at the Highfield Campus of the University of Southampton.

Teachers from the Confucius Institute displayed Chinese culture through two unique activities in paper cutting and calligraphy. They taught the participants how to use red paper cutting out the Chinese characters for "spring" and "happy". They also demonstrated the Chinese calligraphy with "writing your Chinese name" and introduced the knowledge of using brush pen to write.

The festival gave the attendees a good opportunity to experience different traditions and to engage in the intercultural exchange.
