LI Lei has successfully completed his 2-year work placement at the Confucius Institute, University of Southampton
Lei received his Master’s degree in education from Beijing Language and Culture University in 2009, majoring the Curriculum and Teaching Methodology. He worked as a Chinese teacher in Beijing Jiaotong University and the University of Texas at Tyler in USA. Lei joined the Confucius Institute (CI), University of Southampton as a Qualified Mandarin Teacher from October, 2015. He is teaching Chinese for beginners and advanced students in the University of Southampton. In addition, he is responsible for the events held by CI to introduce Chinese language and culture to students and local people. Other responsibilities included:
· Taught credit-bearing beginner-level, intermediate-level and advanced-level Chinese modules to undergraduates from 2015-2017
· Taught non-credit-bearing intensive summer courses in 2016
· Design and taught non-credit-bearing 6 hours intensive courses in 2017
· Planned & created e-Learning resources for CI ‘WeMandarin’ project
· Designed and marked exam papers; Conducted oral & written assessments & reports
· Coordinated a dozen of Chinese culture events in campus and local schools yearly
· Liaised with part-time helpers
· Delivered Chinese culture workshops, including: chopsticks, board game, Mandarin taste class, lantern riddles
· Took photos, wrote news and made video for Chinese culture workshops and event
· Provided 1-to-1 Chinese tuition for members of staff of upper-intermediate level
· Arranged 1-to-1 HSK tuition for undergraduates
· Organized & invigilated HSK/YCT Chinese proficiency tests
· Assisted students to apply Confucius Institute scholarships to study in China
