On 11th October 2017, the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton held its Mid-Autumn Festival and Open Day jointly with the Humanities All Staff Welcome Event to mark the start of the academic year at the Avenue Campus. Students, university staff and residents from the local community attended.

Six hands-on workshops displayed Chinese culture: Mid-Autumn Festival Stories, Bobing, Chinese Tea, Paper-Cutting, Calligraphy and Paper Lantern-Making. Participants had great fun and were able to enjoy sampling moon cakes.

The event provided a good opportunity for people to get to know about the Confucius Institute as well as the Mid-Autumn Festival tradition and Chinese culture.

The participants were very impressed by the innovative Meeting of Wu Gang and Chang E (two figures lived on the moon in different Chinese legends). A British man played the role of Wu Gang and spoke for all participants in expressing his desire to know more about Chinese culture.

Without doubt, the Confucius Institute is attracting more and more people to come and get to know about China and Chinese culture.
