Official opening of the Southampton University Confucius Classroom at Bohunt School Worthing
On 17th January 2018, Bohunt School, Worthing (BSW) held an opening ceremony for its Confucius Classroom at its South England campus.
BSW Headteacher Adam Whitehead, school trustee Phil Avery and school governors John Apsey, Vivien Makovik and David Potter attended the event alongside the co-directors Ying Zheng and Fang Zhou and core teacher Ying Fu of the Confucius Institute at Southampton University (CI Soton).
Four year-ten students of the Confucius Classroom led the opening ceremony in both English and Chinese. A student sang a solo in Chinese: My Song. Ying Zheng and Adam Whitehead then gave speeches, signed a partnership agreement, and unveiled a plaque for the Confucius Classroom. This marked the formal launch of the Confucius Classroom, the third one established by CI Soton since 2011.
After the formal proceedings, attendees were able to visit the well-equipped teaching facility, see for themselves the study environment for students at the Confucius Classroom and watch a performance of Jasmine by year-seven students. Representatives and teachers from both partners talked about follow-up work for the Confucius Classroom.
