On 9th February 2018, a week-long Chinese New Year themed programme, conducted by the Confucius Classroom at Bohunt School, Worthing, held an excellent closing ceremony during morning school assembly.

Nearly 600 teachers and students watched the students singing in Chinese, dancing in traditional Chinese costumes and telling stories about the Chinese “Year”, as well as doing a dragon dance with drums.

The headteacher, Adam Whitehead, who is always keen on foreign language learning, addressed the morning assembly. He said the event marked both the start of Chinese New Year and a starting point for students to engage in Chinese language learning. He believes that language learning will offer the students long-term benefits.

Bohunt, Worthing is a new school with only three years of history, but it takes a long-term perspective. A Chinese Department was set up in its second year and a Confucius Classroom sponsored by the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton was launched in January 2018.
