On 8th February 2019, the Confucius Classroom at the Steiner Academy Frome held a big celebration for the Chinese New Year – the Year of Pig. Around 400 students and teachers participated in the event.

As it has always been at this time of year, Chinese Spring Festival couplets, the word "Fu", window paper cuts, hanging lanterns, red dresses, and the traditional Chinese New Year decorations were all over the campus. Junior students vividly performed the traditional Chinese lion dance. Singing and reading aloud in Chinese on the stage reflected the language learning at school. Two Chinese dragons swimming in the hands of senior students highlighted the whole event, which led students and teachers to be out of the building and planted the “New Year Tree” together. Participants also enjoyed the – Chinese dumpling tasting session.

The celebration cheered the students up in the cold winter weather and gave them great encouragement for their further learning of Chinese language and culture.
