Chinese Culture Day at Shirley Junior School

On 23rd January 2019, the Shirley Junior School in Southampton organised a Chinese Culture Day. Siqi Yang and Puxuan An, tutors from the Confucius Institute at Southampton University guided 100 Year 5 pupils to try Chinese paper cutting of panda and ‘Double Happiness’ character, and then put them together with their creative background design as presentations.

This is the first time for school to have a day experience of the Chinese culture.  Will Perrins, the organiser of the event, said that he would recommend school to consider running some Chinese interest classes or Chinese language classes to provide students the opportunity to learn about Chinese culture and basic Chinese language expressions.
