Modern Languages and Linguistics (MLL) hosted Year 8 Able Linguist Day and Year 10 Study Day on 12th and 13th June 2019 at the Avenue Campus, University Of Southampton. Each day welcomed about 140 school pupils and their teachers. The Confucius Institute (CI) contributed to the two-day events via providing CI tutors to the Chinese Language Taster Sessions.

Dr. Jane Lavery kick-started each day with her introductory speeches. Pupils took part in the content sessions with PGCE trainees on the themes of “wearable technology” and “music & festivals” and joined the language taster sessions with French, German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, etc. Dr Darren Paffey gave his speech on “Why Languages Matter” on the closing plenary sessions. Feedback was outstanding from teachers and pupils who left inspired to continue learning modern languages.
