Siqi YANG successfully completed two- year work placement at Confucius Institute, University of Southampton

Siqi had been an English teacher at primary schools in China for three years before she joined the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton (CI) as a qualified Mandarin Chinese language teacher in September 2017. In the academic year 2017 – 2018, she was assigned to join the “Project Somerset” in delivering Mandarin tuition to students of all ages across the county. Her main responsibilities were to teach Chinese language courses in eight local schools and colleges all over Somerset area, including Chinese language taster courses, Chinese clubs and cultural workshops.

In her last academic year with CI, 2018-2019, she was appointed to work in the University of Southampton. She was responsible for teaching Mandarin to university students for SSU courses and to staff /general public in “We Love Mandarin” Project as well as delivering teaching at local schools, including Mansbridge Primary School Confucius Classroom, Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, etc. In addition, she was responsible for conducting some office work at CI office and organising events for CI to promote Chinese language and culture within the university and in the wider world to local communities.
