The 9th Annual Conference in the Innovative Language Teaching and Learning at University Series

On 28th June 2019，the 9th Annual Conference in the Innovative Language Teaching and Learning at University series was held by the Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton, sponsored by the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton.

Under the theme of “Treasuring languages: innovative and creative approaches in HE”, this year’s InnoConf19 conference aims to ignite discussions and seek innovative approaches dealing with creative ways to raise awareness about the value of learning languages.

In recent years, we have been witnessing a consistent decline in applications to study languages at UK universities. How is the HE sector responding to this crisis? Regarding this issue, Professor Michael Kelly from the University of Southampton gave his keynote speech on “European Responses to the Challenge of Language Learning ".

The conference then moved to four parallel sessions, during which more than 20 presentations were presented followed by discussions. Experts from British universities shared their innovative language teaching methods and practices.

This conference provided a good platform for various innovative approaches, cases and research ideas for language teaching in the UK HE sector.
