The Confucius Classroom Steiner Celebrated Year of the Rat

On 31st January 2020, the Confucius Classroom Steiner, one of the classrooms founded by the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton, hold a one-day Chinese New Year celebration for Year of the Rat. Students from 10 different years participated the big event.

Year 1 and Year 3 students presented Chinese poetry reading with beautiful rhythms. Year 4 and Year 5 students had a competition on flyer designing with a new format of touch-and-talk over Chinese phrases. Year 7 students read aloud and sang a Chinese ancient song in melodious tones. Year 8 students performed a drama named The Mouse Bride in Chinese, which was the first drama in foreign language since the school established. Year 9 students performed Wing Chun - a type of Chinese marshal art. Year 6 and Year 10 students cooperatively performed Dragon Dance and Lion Dance to whish good luck for the year.


The school canteen provided Chinese steamed dumplings for all. The setting off firecrackers marked the end of celebration for the day as a school tradition. Let us wish the Confucius Classroom Steiner making good progress in the year.
