CI hold the Third Lunchtime Forum

The third lunchtime webinar was held by the Confucius Institute (CI) at the University of Southampton on 29th April 2022. Dr. Mona LI, from the Winchester School of Art, gave a presentation on ‘Representation of Chinese Women in 1990s Films——A Case Study on LI Shao-hong’s Red Suit(1997)’.

During the talk, Dr. Li introduced the experience of the director, and analysis the film from the aspects of the contextualization, the plotline and the theme. Also, Dr. Li explored the woman figure of the film ‘Hong Guang’, which means the red light and reflects the great change happened in 1990s in China. After the speech, some audiences asked questions they were interested in such as the differences between the female figures in the TV drama Dr. LI mentioned in the presentation and in Red Suit, and the significance of the 1990s film.
