Forth Lunchtime Forum - Comic Book Hero? A Graphic Novel to Introduce Adam Smith to Chinese Audiences

CI Hold the Forth Lunchtime Forum On 26th May 2022, CI hold the forth lunchtime webinar -- Comic Book Hero? A Graphic Novel to Introduce Adam Smith to Chinese Audiences，which was given by Dr Jonathan Conlin, Senior Lecturer in Modern History, University of Southampton.

In the speech, Dr Jonathan Conlin introduced Adam Smith from his life experience and main theory. After that, Dr Jonathan Conlin explained what is a graphic novel, why he use a graphic novel and how can he introduce Adam Smith’s to Chinese audiences with the help of comic artist Edward Luper. Also, several pages of their work were showed to the audience to help them understand how the two masters work together. After the great speech, some audiences talked about the questions they were interested in with Dr Jonathan Conlin, such as if this book is suitable for children and why adopt British rather than Chinese caricatures.

The book use a new way to introduce Adam Smith’s theory to Chinese audience, including not only the economic theories but also the philosophy and psychology theories. The creation is still in progress, we are looking forward to the birth of this wonderful work.
