Miroslava Lindsay Won the Third Prize in Individuals Category, 2022 Chinese Bridge Mandarin Speaking Competition for UK Schools
On 23rd May, the 2022 Chinese Bridge Mandarin Speaking Competition for UK Schools, organised by CLEC UK and supported by the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy and the British Council held online. On 1st June, Miroslava Lindsay from Bohunt School Liphook was given the Third Prize for Individuals Category: Beginner Plus Level in the National Celebration and Results Announcing Ceremony.
There are 112 contestants in the individuals’ competition, and they are divided into five groups according to the study time. Miroslava Lindsay, the year 8 student from Bohunt School Liphook, joined the Beginner Plus Level’s competition. She chose I am interested in square dancing as her topic and talked about other Chinese interests such as Chinese martial arts and calligraphy. She gave a 2-minute speech and answered the questions from the judges. Finally, she won the the Third Prize for Individuals Category: Beginner Plus Level.
Miroslava (Mira) not only has an English-Russian bilingual environment, but also loves Chinese very much. She always practicing oral Chinese with her classmates at school. Her love for Chinese is also showed in drama class: she will include Chinese lines in the short drama assessment every semester in drama class. In addition, her grades in sports, music and other subjects are also very good.
After learning the information of the Chinese Bridge competition, Mira enthusiastically signed up for the competition. Taylor Zhang, Mira’s Chinese teacher, used the vocabulary and sentence patterns she learned in class to inspire her creation and writing. Miki Carter, a local Chinese teacher in Liphook , served as Mira's competition tutor. Ms. Carter used the afterschool time to help Mira with her competition. After Mira's hard work and the careful guidance of the two teachers, especially Ms. Carter careful sparring, they finally achieved good results. Ms. Carter said: "It is our first time to participate in the competition, and there is no video of previous competitions to learn from. Although the process is not easy, it is still fantastic."
