CI Second Teachers Professional Training Session Held

The second teachers professional training of University of Southampton CI was held online on 28th October 2022. Dr Ruoling Zheng, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, hosted this session. Ying Fu, the core teacher of CI, and Prof .Dr. Michael Ng, the professor of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Southampton and the President of the Southampton Chinese Association, gave lectures. Six relevant staff joined this meeting.

Ms Fu focused on the introduction of Safeguarding in English schools to help new teachers clarify the boundaries of teaching behaviour. Ms Fu also introduced what is differentiation, and how to apply differentiation in the English classroom.

Several teachers shared their experience. Fengru Zhang, the volunteer teacher of Bohunt School Worthing and Bohunt School Horsham, shared her experience about differentiated teaching; Rong Gong, the Hanban teacher of Bohunt School Worthing, shared her thoughts about SEN students; Miki Carter, the Hanban local teacher of Bohunt School Liphook, shared the special teaching approach CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning); Guoqing Kang, the Hanban teacher of CI, shared a true case of China Open day.

Towards the end of the meeting, CI invited Prof . Dr. Michael Ng to give a lecture about Safety and Partnership. Dr. Michael Ng introduced some key points about safety during working hours, nonworking hours, how to use UK laws to protect ourselves, and shared two cases for all the teachers to study.  Dr. Michael Ng emphasised the importance of partnership, and said the police are a valuable resource we can reach out to if we need.

This training session not only provided new teachers with important rules and customs, which can help them get acquainted with working and living in the UK, but also gave all the teachers a good chance to learn from each other and improve their teaching skills.
