Hands on Humanities Day at the University of Southampton
On 19th November 2022, the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton participated in the Hands-on Humanities Day–Southampton Arts and Humanities Festival
CI held three workshops: Chinese calligraphy, folk paper-cutting, and Qigong Baduanjin. In the calligraphy workshop, visitors appreciated calligraphy art and tried brush writing. In the folk paper-cutting workshop, visitors could not only try traditional Chinese paper-cutting patterns, but also cut snowflake patterns to welcome the arrival of Christmas.
In the Baduanjin workshop, Prof Michael Ng, professor of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering School of Southampton University and President of the Southampton Chinese Association was specially invited to teach Baduanjin, a type of traditional Chinese qigong, to help everyone exercise and keep fit. The event started at 10:30am and ended at 4:30 in the afternoon, attracting the enthusiastic participation of hundreds of visitors.
This workshop not only provided the visitors with an opportunity to understand and experience Chinese culture in depth, but also aroused their attention and interest in learning Chinese.
