Dr. Zheng Ying, Director of the Confucius Institute at The University of Southampton attended one of the six sub-forums on the evening of December 10. Dr. Zheng Ying, together with Li Jia and Chen Yuhua, made a report on " An Investigation of the Statistical Alignment of A-Level Mandarin Chinese to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)".

There are 3 stages of the project which are a standard setting exercise to look at the relationship between A-Level Chinese exam and CEFR, A-Level Chinese teacher interviews and a corpus linguistics investigation to look at the language patterns of A-level Chinese exam papers. This research is aiming to help understand the current situation of A-level Chinese teaching and assessment in the UK and to investigate what the A-level Chinese exam is intended to measure and to what extent the A-level Chinese exam can be aligned with the CEFR.
