From January 16 to January 20, 2023, Bohunt School Worthing Confucius Classroom of the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton held a week-long "Chinese New Year Week" to welcome the Chinese Year of the Rabbit with a variety of cultural and teaching activities.
On 16th Jan, Mrs. Nai, the Head of Mandarin Department of Bohunt School Worthing, introduced the Chinese New year on the Monday whole school assembly, focused on Chinese ethnic minorities. The year 7 MEP group also sang the Chinese song Happy New Year on assembly.
The Mandarin department also held Chinese workshops on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday’s break time: Dragon Ribbon Dancing, Chopsticks using, Chinese traditional cloth wearing and Chinese calligraphy experience. In addition, the teachers used class time to introduce Chinese culture, making Chinese red envelopes, and learning some new year greetings in Chinese.
Spring Festival culture is an important part of Chinese traditional culture. This Spring Festival cultural activity not only allowed the students to experience the traditional Chinese culture, but also deepened their interest in learning Chinese, which is conducive to the development of Chinese teaching in the school.
