Guoqi Kang Presentation

On 18th April 2023, Guoqi Kang, a mandarin teacher from the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton, was invited by Sam Furr from the Center for Higher Education Practice (CHEP) and Michael Bastin from Winchester School of Art at the University of Southampton to deliver a lecture on "Pronunciation and Meanings of Chinese Names" for the university staff. The theme has been well received as it has been repeated for three times since it was first delivered on 28th September 2022. Mr. Kang introduced the pronunciation of the Chinese characters, which generally used in the given names, and the meaning that bearing. He also explained the different ways of composing people’s names between Chinese and English, as well as formal and informal title addressing in Chinese. The participants found it very informative.
