Researchers from the CI attended the 20th International Conference on Teaching and Learning Chinese in Higher Education in the UK
From 29th June to 1st July 2023, the 20th International Conference on Teaching and Learning Chinese in Higher Education was successfully held at the University of Edinburgh, organised by the British Chinese Language Teaching Society (BCLTS) and co-sponsored by the Confucius Institute at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. The theme of this conference was Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in the New Normal: Cross-Disciplinary Theory and Practice. Five keynote speakers and 50 researchers from 20 countries presented at the conference. This was the first reinstatement of in person annual meeting of the BCLTS since the pandemic.
Researchers from the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton (CI) attended the conference - the CI Director Dr. Zheng Ying, senior Mandarin teacher Kang Guoqi and two other Mandarin teachers Lyv Yao and Zhang Fengru. Dr. Zheng gave a presentation on the Alignment of A-Level Mandarin Chinese to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Miss Zhang presented on the research of grammar and topic relationships based on the GCSE Chinese examination. Mr. Kang delivered a presentation on the research of the abilities and qualities that teachers in British primary and secondary schools should possess.
