Confucius Institute guest lecture. Professor Charles Beaupre St Mary's University, Halifax, Canada
Western Science and Asian Approaches to Health and Wellness.
Charles has spent many years investigating the subtle interrelationship of body, mind and spirit, mainly through the Chinese art of Qigong 气功, a practice with roots in Chinese medicine, philosophy and martial arts which involves aligning body, breath and mind for the cultivation and balancing of the qi or “life energy”.
He has presented at many international academic conferences, workshops and seminars on issues of health and wellbeing. His main area of research activity relates to cross cultural educational psychology and he has been interested in comparative (East-West) studies of learning/teaching approaches as well as curricula and pedagogical activities informed by transformative learning.
He is presently focussed on two specific forms of wellness/spiritual development, Jiankang Qigong 健康气功 and Taiji Qigong 太极气功.
Charles is the Director of the Confucius Institute at St Mary’s University.
