Event details

Since the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton opened at Highfield Campus in October 2011, it has become a channel offering local people the opportunity to study Chinese language and culture. In 2017, the Confucius Institute moved to the Faculty of Humanities at Avenue Campus. The forthcoming event ‘the Confucius Institute at Southampton, Past, Present and Future’ on 10 March will offer an opportunity for students, staff and the wider Southampton community to learn more about CI.

The event will include performances aiming to dazzle the audience with unique cross-cultural activities:

• Tea Ceremony: A special Tea Ceremony by Tea Masters from the National Tea Museum in Hangzhou, China, who performed at the G20 in Hangzhou in 2016. Further information about the Tea masters can be found in the Profile of the Tea Master.

• Music performance: The romance of Chinese music meeting Western music. Chinese Music performed by Southampton Art Group and Western Music performed by Music students from the University of Southampton.

• Chinese Kung Fu: Performed by Shao Lin, the famous Kung Fu group in Southampton.

All staff and students and members of the local community are invited to join this exciting celebration for FREE.
