Event details

The Royal United Services Institute, with support from the British-Yemeni Society, Durham University, and the MBI Al Jaber Foundation, will be hosting an all-day conference to mark the 50th anniversary of Britain’s withdrawal from Aden and South Arabia.

Bringing together academics researching the period and British officials involved at the time, the conference will explore the events leading up to the 30 November 1967 withdrawal and its legacy. Joseph Higgins, a PhD History student at Southampton and one of the instigators of the event, will be presenting a paper on the policy challenges Britain faced post-Suez. The conference will be held at RUSI Whitehall on 4 December 2017. Registration is free, and full details can be found here: https://rusi.org/event/without-glory-without-disaster-50-years-after-british-withdrawal-aden.
