Abstract

A high number of studies have been dedicated to the history of the trans-atlantic slavery but fewer examined the linked the histories of the Atlantic and Indian Ocean slavery and their consequences on post-slavery societies. This presentation proposes to analyse the articulation between history, memory of enslavement in Europe, Africa, the Atlantic World and the Indian Ocean. It will bring together memory scholarship, the question of legacies
such as citizenship in a few settings, social movements and the demands for reparations or in others.
