Dr Joe Viana is Research Fellow within Social Sciences at the University of Southampton.
I have a personal interest in focussing my future research on Dementia and Alzheimer’s and am fortunate that the CLC project is likely to engage with these topics.
I am an Operational Researcher currently working on the Care Life Cycle project. I have completed all of my degrees at the University of Southampton. In 2002 I received a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Health Science with Psychology. Following this I worked in Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) as a Research Finance Officer. During my time in ECS I decided to study towards an MSc in Management Science, part time. I received an MSc in 2006 and was awarded an award for excellence for my dissertation, which involved constructing a Discrete Event Simulation model of Leeds General Infirmary’s A&E department.
I began my PhD in 2006 under the supervision of Professor Sally Brailsford . I was awarded my PhD in 2011, which was conducted in collaboration with a local hospital and entitled “The Development of a Combined Simulation Approach in a Sexual Health Context: Combining Discrete Event and System Dynamics Simulation to Form a Composite Model”.
I am a keen sportsman and adventurer. I take part in many sports: football, tennis, badminton, running, swimming and golf to name a few. I also fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Society by climbing mountains and taking part in various challenges.
