Event details

What should Southampton do to tackle climate change? How can we persuade each other to take climate change seriously in our city? What actions need to be prioritised?

Join Dr James Dyke (Geography & Environment, University of Southampton) who will be hosting an evening of talks, discussion, music and film on Friday 27th November 6-9pm. The event will see a wide range of community groups, University staff and students come together to find out how they can address the challenge of climate change.

This is a timely event as the crucial United Nations climate change conference - COP21 - will run in Paris from 30th November to 12th December. International agreement will be sought that will limit humans’ impacts on the Earth’s climate. The consequences of another failure to reach collective action are potentially very grim.

Rather than being passive observers to such events, Climate Change Conversations will challenge us to become informed and involved in solutions to climate change. These are issues that affects all of us and ones in which we can all participate in. The evening will include:

- A talk on the role of government on addressing climate change by Dr Alan Whitehead, MP for Southampton Test, University of Southampton alumnus and long-standing champion of energy and climate issues in Parliament.

- A panel discussion featuring local community activists, politicians, academics and students.

- Music from Grant Sharkey: http://www.grantsharkey.com

- Director introduction to and then viewing of short climate change documentary The Environmental Litmus Test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFrzPf4fXRM
