Research by Professor Alex Rogers and his team at the University of Southampton has explored novel ways to measure, visualise and optimise energy use through the web and mobile devices
The research ran a pilot study, sending their device - which looks like a USB stick, through the mail to users who volunteered to test it. It was extremely successful and a spin out company saw the device brought to market by Quby. The Joulo is simple to use and provides users with a thermal analysis of their home. it is an excellent way of educating people about their energy consumption. The technology is based on smart algorithms created by Professor Rogers and his team of artificial intelligence researchers. It won the 2013 British Gas Innovation Award. The technology was acquired by Quby in early 2015 and continues to deliver valuable insights regarding domestic energy consumption to the customer via its connection to the cloud-based smart algorithms.
